WALDORF, Md. (3/8/05) -- Katrina Dill and Brian Rosa had no idea
why they were summoned to the Southern Maryland Business Center in
Waldorf on Monday, March 7.
When they arrived, they found a celebration in progress and
quickly learned it was for them: Kimberly Bean, founder and CEO of
SoMdWeddings.com and The Southern Maryland Wedding Guide, announced
that Katrina and Brian, both of Waldorf, had been chosen as the
winner’s of the magazine’s "Southern Maryland Dream Wedding
Giveaway."
Katrina jumped in surprise. "Are you serious?" she asked.
She hugged Brian and then proceeded to hug everyone in the room:
Bean, Sandi Foraci of Sandi Foraci Photography, Doloris Buckley of
ForEver Yours, Jimmy Guy of Elite Beatz Entertainment, Master Bridal
Consultant Mary Rahall, Anita Kriner of Anita’s Wedding Cake Company
and Jackie Payne of Today’s Bride and Tuxedos. Other vendors not
shown participating in the dream wedding, which is valued at about
$25,000 include Illusions Hair & Nail Salon, Timeless Video
Memories, Creative Cuisine Catering, Gold Star Limousines, and BridalEverything.com.
The couple was selected from the five finalist couples chosen at
SoMdWeddings.com’s "A Bridal Affair" bridal show on Feb. 20. Each
couple was asked to submit an essay about why they should win the
dream wedding. A panel of local wedding service providers met to
review the essays anonymously and select a winner.
In the introduction to their essay, Katrina said she had planned
to ask Brian to write a few words and then fill in with more of her
own. "Instead, he put words on paper that better defined how we feel
about each other than anything that time would ever allow me to
think up!" she said.
Brian described the couple’s struggle with a long-distance
relationship while he was in South Carolina, where they met, and she
was in Waldorf finishing her education and working.
"Our feeling for each other is timeless, with no boundaries,
geographical or spiritual," he wrote. "We are separated by our age
difference, our backgrounds and even sometimes our opinions.
However, we have found that this only creates a stronger
relationship."
When it came time to move, Brian said, he realized he needed to
explain to his family and friends why he was leaving them and his
hometown. "I agreed with them that I was only moving to be with my
girlfriend, but it was OK," he wrote. "I can find another job, make
new friends, but I could never find another her."
"I have already won the ultimate prize in her."
Bean read the essay aloud to those at the reception, and there
wasn’t a dry eye in the place when she finished. "As a panel, we
thought Brian’s essay captured the essence of the contest," she
said. "That is, he wrote about love, relationship, sacrifice and
romance. It was clear from his writing that his fiancée Katrina is
precious to him."
Katrina and Brian will be married Feb. 18, 2006, at Middleton
Hall in Waldorf. They will begin planning their wedding with Rahall
in the coming weeks. The Southern Maryland Wedding Guide will track
their planning progress throughout the year and then attend and
report on the wedding.
